Carole Laskey teaches English and Language Arts as well as Study Skills
and Vocational Education at Seton Academy. Her professional philosophy
is that schools must work as a team with students, families and other
providers in the community to produce young people who feel confident,
see themselves as successful students, and are prepared to continue
their educations, enter the world of work and contribute to the world in
which they live.
She has professional educator certificates in English and Special
Education, certification as a school social worker and is a licensed
clinical social worker. At Seton, she is advisor to the Literary
Magazine, "Speak 2 Me," is Standardized Test Coordinator for CAPT and
CMT, and organizes projects with students such as bake sales and
recycling drives to benefit the community.
Ms. Laskey graduated from Southern Connecticut State University with a
B.S. in Secondary Education/English, and a Master's Degree in Counseling
Psychology. She has a Master of Social Work degree from Smith College.
Ms. Laskey has published articles on successful approaches to working
with adolescents, and managed care and its effect on patients' lengths
of stay in hospitals. She is currently at work on a children's book
about tolerance and diversity.
A lifelong resident of Connecticut, Ms. Laskey and her husband Tom have
raised a daughter, Anna, now in college, and is familiar with towns and
school districts throughout the area. She is a frequent community
speaker on topics such as peer pressure and stress for teens, bullying
and school violence, and has addressed these topics as a trainer of
mental health staff and educators. She has been an adjunct professor of
social work at Fordham University's Graduate School of Social Service
and an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Duke University.
In addition to her husband and daughter, Ms. Laskey resides with two
dogs, one cat, and one ferret, which she intends somehow to work into
the curriculum.
